Sub-Component 2.3 Improving Protected Areas (PAs) and Wildlife management

  • Wildlife conservation and co-management activities are being strengthened in 32 protected areas.
  • Improved wildlife habitats and corridors through plantation (wildlife habitat-2500 ha. and PA corridor 1140 ha.).
  • 8 endangered and threatened wildlife species conserved (Elephant, Vulture, Shark and Ray, Birds of Prey and Migratory Birds, Dolphin, Gharial, Spoon-billed Sandpiper).
  • PA Co-management strengthening process in progress in 19 PAs.
  • Strengthened WC & WCCU forensic lab with equipment and reagents.
  • 75 BFD personnel trained on SMART patrolling at WC and will be rolled out in 09 PAs.
  • A total of 4,303 km patrolling has been completed following SMART protocol in the PAs.
  • Protected Areas Management Plan (1) is proposed to be prepared under CEGIS assignment.
