Training & Capacity Building

Training for employees in an organization is concerned with organizational activity aiming at bettering the performance of individual employee and groups of employees in organizational setting. Training focuses on doing activities today to develop employees for their current jobs as well as preparing employees for future roles and responsibilities. SUFAL project of FD, cognized this beneficial facet of training and are attempted organizational development through providing training to the employees. For this, the project has incorporated training opportunities for the officer and staffs of the forest department. In addition, as FD is intended to increase focus on people-oriented forestry, as it is emphatically included in SUFAL project through Collaborative Forest Management activities, provision of training for community peoples and others associated involvers are included. Officers and staffs are being given long, medium and short training through different courses on various subjects/topics – IBAS++, EGP, Accounts, Site Specific Planning, Procurement, Biodiversity Conservation, Wildlife Mgt., Smart Patrolling, Forest Restoration, Biodiversity Conservation, Climate Change, Blue Economy, Information Technology, Environmental and Social Safeguards, Sustainable Development, Collaborative Forest Management, Managerial Communication, Office management, etc, as shown in the following table- As such, FD Officers and staffs through value addition will effectively perform their job.

SUFAL training programs are organized, designed and executed based on and center pointing year-wise prepared training plan approved by concerned authority. In these plans long, medium and short-term training programs that included different subjects/topics covering the technical as well as management & development and leadership aspects on forestry, wildlife, climate change and other associated issues. Major training areas selected are those required to prepare the officers and staffs to do their jobs more efficiently and also to prepare them to effectively handle future role and responsibilities. Moreover, programs are also identified to maximize capacity building in key areas of SUFAL field activities associated with issues to raise the effectiveness of FD field officers and staffs. For this, based on the SUFAL project provision, consultations through meeting arrangements among the project officers and consultants; meeting arranged with the officials of the forest department; consultation through meeting arrangements with the officers of the cost centers and Project Management Unit (PMU); and several individual and group consultations with related field staffs as well.

Community Training

Community training are organization’s programs to promote learning and social development activities with individuals and groups in their communities. Community training is helpful as it enables the people to manage their own affairs and community’s affairs while improving their own conditions. SUFAL projects major focus is to community engagement in forest restoration, conservation and development through Collaborative Forest Management. For this, community operation manuals were prepared detailing structure and functioning of SUFAL Collaborative Forest Management initiatives and training programs for community members are being executed through 7 (seven) NGOs involvement. Starting with SUFAL project implementation basics, major topics covered are – Institutionalization of Collaborative Forest Management and implementation arrangements-  Village level Institutions, structure & functions of Village level institutions; Protected  Area Co-management; Approaches to conservation and restoration; Alternative income generation (AIGA) activities- Livelihood of Forest Dependent Communities (FDC), Impact of Climate change, climate Resilient livelihoods, conservation based AIGAs; Community Identification of Poor (CIP); Community Development Fund & Livelihood Development Fund for AIGAs, Participatory appraisal of Fund; Community Finance, Accounts Management – Financial Principle, Bank Accounts, Financial Authority; Reporting financial progress, pre-cautions to prevent misuse; Community Procurement, Audit; Monitoring and reporting; Conflict Resolution; Environmental and Social safeguard, Grievance Redress Mechanism, etc. Forest Division wise number of community members trained so far are shown below in a tabular form.

Training with Other Agency

SUFAL project executed training programs at other Government training academy/institute/Center/University on different aspects of management and development focusing on current need and future skill development of the officers and staffs of the Forest Department. These are Bangladesh National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD), Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM), CID Training School of Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI), Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University. Workshop

Workshop is a meeting where things are get discussed as well as get done. In workshop, group of people engage in intensive discussion and activities on a particular topic/issue/subject. In SUFAL project, there are provision to arrange workshops on different matters that have impotency in solving the focused issues through arranging workshops. A list of major workshops so far done covering specific issues and problems identified and solution developed are shown in the following table:
