The SUFAL Project in Bangladesh has included a seedling distribution component aimed at promoting reforestation and sustainable forest management practices. Through this component, the project had aimed to distribute seedlings of fast-growing tree species to local communities, particularly for planting seedling in degraded and marginal lands, to establish new forests and increase forest cover.

The seedlings distributed had been carefully selected based on their adaptability to local climatic and soil conditions, as well as their potential for producing timber and non-timber forest products. The project had also provided training and technical support to the communities on tree planting and management techniques, as well as on the potential economic benefits of sustainable forest management.

The seedling distribution component of the SUFAL Project had been expected to have multiple benefits, including improving soil fertility, mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration, and increasing income for the communities through the sale of timber and non-timber forest products. It had also been expected to contribute to the restoration of degraded lands and the conservation of biodiversity in the project area.

By this time the project was completed, 6.40 million seedlings had been distributed for planting in areas outside of forests. Around 25% of the seedlings had been purchased from private sector nurseries.
