In the IAS technical session, participants highlighted the need of a common understanding on the definition of IAS in Bangladesh. Many participants suggested that, CBD definition of IAS should be analyzed further in the aspect of Bangladesh and should adopt the changes. The methodology of the study also prescribed to revise further which is already adopted by the experts’ panel. The IAS study was suggested to be developed in tailor to the five protected areas of forest and develop appropriate criteria to analyze the species. Also, decision should be taken on how much area of a Protected Area should be considered as a sample of the forest. Also, exploring any other methodology that can be applied in this study beyond the traditional ones. Moreover, management strategy for the IAS should also focus to discourage any pesticide or herbicides usages. Provisions should be explored to control biological mechanism of IAS. There should also be policy implication of the IAS study in terms of controlling their dominance. Lastly, participants highlighted the need to integrate community awareness on these species to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.
